A horrific cash-in-transit robbery unfolded on the M35 near Folweni, south of Durban, on Tuesday, 3 October 2023, just after 09:00, resulting in the tragic death of a security guard.

ALS Paramedics rushed to the scene following reports of the robbery, only to find the SAPS (South African Police Service) already present and the area cordoned off.
The aftermath of the robbery was dire, with the cash transit vehicle overturned and resting against a property.

Paramedics on the scene conducted a rapid triage, identifying one guard who had sustained fatal injuries during the incident.
Despite their efforts, there was nothing more that could be done for the deceased guard, who was declared dead on the scene.
Another guard was in critical condition due to gunshot wounds, necessitating stabilisation by Advanced Life paramedics.
A call was made to Netcare911 Aeromedical Helicopter to airlift the critically injured guard to a Level 1 trauma unit for immediate medical attention.
A third guard, who sustained moderate injuries, was treated on the scene before being transported to a local hospital for further care.
The robbery led to a temporary closure of the M35 in both directions as SAPS personnel carried out their investigations into the incident.

Meanwhile, the suspects believed to be responsible for the heinous cash-in-transit robbery remain at large.
They managed to flee the scene with an undisclosed amount of money looted from the money truck.
As of the last update, the police had yet to release a statement regarding the incident.
