Dramatic scenes played out near the Shoprite Shopping Centre, in Dunoon, WC, on Thursday morning, where a group of armed robbers attempted to take down a cash-in-transit (CIT) truck.
Watch: Dunoon cash-in-transit heist caught on camera
The morning traffic at the Milnerton shopping district was rocked by the raucous sounds of military-grade ammunition ringing off at an intersection on Potsdam Road This incident occurred around the same vicinity where, in November 2021, a business robbery resulted in the death of a SAPS official.
Eyewitnesses who were brave enough to whip out their phones and record the fiery encounter captured the daring escape pulled off by SBV security guards.
We contacted Cape Town police for clarity on the incident. However, a response was not received at the time this article was published.
From what we understand, though, an unknown number of armed gunmen ambushed the money truck during one of its trips to the Milnerton shopping centre.
In the video clips, which you can watch below, the SBV cash van was seen pulling away from the ambush, in an attempt to skirt the hail of gunfire
A black vehicle with considerable damage to the bonnet is thought to have been involved in the incident. Perhaps, the robbers tried to force the SBV security guards to a halt by ramming the vehicle into the cash van?
This remains to be confirmed but there is reason to believe that the vehicle was most likely used in the commission of the attempted Dunoon cash-in-transit heist.
The video clips end as the money truck pulls away, and according to reports, the heist was foiled by the security guards’ quick reactions.
