Roby Johnson, suspecting his coffee was being tampered with due to a recurring foul taste, decided to install security cameras in their home.
These cameras were strategically placed in the laundry room, over their coffee machine, and along the path Melody would walk between these two points.
The footage obtained clearly showed Melody pouring bleach into a container and subsequently into the coffee maker.
This decisive evidence played a crucial role in her arrest and subsequent legal proceedings.
Roby had previously used pool testing strips that detected high levels of chlorine in the coffee, confirming his suspicions before the video confirmation.
Arizona woman’s sinister motives unravelled
According to reports, Melody Feliciano Johnson’s motivations for poisoning her husband stemmed from a tumultuous divorce process they were undergoing while sharing a residence.
Investigators believe that Melody’s actions were driven by a desire to kill her husband to claim death benefits.
This revelation came to light as the couple, who were living in Germany at the time due to Roby’s position with the US Air Force, were navigating their separation.
Melody’s actions were premeditated, as indicated by her purchase of a home in the Philippines, suggesting possible plans to flee after carrying out the poisoning.
Melody Feliciano Johnson gets probation for attempted murder
Despite the severity of her actions, Melody Feliciano Johnson was sentenced to three years of probation following a plea agreement that reduced her charges from attempted first-degree murder to two counts of adding poison to food or drink.
The court mandated her to undergo a mental health evaluation and adhere to its recommendations.
This lighter sentencing came after her estranged husband advocated against her imprisonment, coupled with her already having served a year in prison due to her inability to post a $250,000 bond.
Feliciano was ordered to have no contact with her husband outside of legal proceedings.
