After a temporary evacuation, residents have been allowed to return to their homes, though the threat posed by the fire remains substantial.
The blaze has scorched an estimated 783 hectares of land, but thankfully, no loss of life has been reported.
As night falls, the firefighting efforts persist, with four active fire lines identified. The most notable are Division Bravo, located on the Pringle Bay side of the mountain, and Division Charlie, on the opposite side of the R44.
The proximity of Carla Road, Ceaser Road, Edward Road, Lawrence Road, and Stream Road to the active lines means that residents in these areas need to stay alert.
The firefighting team, comprising 120 firefighters, 30 vehicles, and three helicopters, has been working tirelessly.
Overstrand Municipal Manager Dean O’Neill praised their efforts and noted that a reduced team would continue the fight through the night, with fresh teams arriving tomorrow.
Residents are urged to maintain vigilance, especially with the potential for unpredictable fire behaviour due to changing winds.
Mayor Rabie has commended the firefighters for their remarkable job under trying conditions and advised residents to keep the Fire and Rescue number handy for any further assistance.
