Devil’s Peak fire updates: Here’s what we know
Following an emergency call received at 19:45, several firefighting resources were quickly dispatched to the scene.
The teams encountered flames aggressively fuelled by strong winds, complicating their efforts to control the spread.
In a statement, City official Jermaine Carelse confirmed an Incident Management Team Type 4 was activated to oversee the coordination of the firefighting strategy, aiming to contain and eventually extinguish the fire.
Firefighters from Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) joined the efforts, approaching the fire from Devil’s Peak’s side to maximise the efficiency of the operation.
As a precautionary measure and to facilitate the movement of emergency vehicles, Philip Kgosana Drive’s incoming lane was closed.
Authorities have not specified when the road will reopen, advising the public to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
Despite the ferocity of the Devil’s Peak fire, officials have confirmed that no property has been damaged.
The situation remains fluid, with teams on the ground continuously assessing the progression of the fire and adjusting their tactics accordingly.
This is a developing story.
