City of Cape Town locks down Comic-Con for three more years
This landmark decision follows the City Council’s resolution on the event’s sponsorship, heralding a new chapter in Cape Town’s cultural landscape.
Comic-Con Cape Town, renowned as a premier pop culture event, offers a rich tapestry of gaming, comics, shopping, cosplay, and international celebrities.
The event, encompassing four days of immersive experiences, has become a pivotal platform for celebrating pop culture in all its diverse forms.
Building on the resounding success of the 2023 event, which saw over 27 000 attendees and generated significant economic activity, the 2024 edition is poised to be even more expansive.
In response to the growing fan base, an additional day has been added to the event, making it a five-day cultural extravaganza.
JP Smith, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, highlighted the event’s overwhelming success and its resonance with local, national, and international audiences.
“The event exceeded all expectations and received the full buy-in of local, national and international audiences in 2023. As the City, we believe it will keep on building from here and our support will go a long way in ensuring that Comic Con Cape Town remains a go-to event for people of all age groups.
“Additionally, it has been encouraging to see the immediate impact the event has had on the economy and the expectation is that this trend will continue for years to come,” he said.
The upcoming event aims to scale new heights, with plans to increase the number of exhibitors and further boost local business opportunities.
Comic-Con Cape Town 2024 is scheduled to take place at CTICC 2 from 27 April to 1 May 2024.
