Camps Bay residents are set to experience water supply disruptions later this week, as the City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate undertakes essential maintenance work.
Camps Bay water disruptions: Here’s everything we know
The scheduled maintenance will involve pipe and valve installations, repairs, and replacements.
A crucial test shut-off is planned on the 400mm diameter pipeline connecting the Kloofnek Water Treatment Plant to the Camps Bay Reservoir.
The shut-off, happening from 09:00 to 17:00 on Friday, 2 February 2024, aims to prepare for repair work on the water leak along the Pipe Track.
During this period, residents might experience low water pressure or a complete lack of water as the reservoir level may drop.
“This work forms part of the Water and Sanitation Directorate’s proactive infrastructure maintenance and upgrade program, ensuring the future continuity of water supply and addressing the issue of unaccounted-for water,” the City’s statement highlighted.
Residents are advised to take proactive steps in preparation for the water supply disruption.
The City suggests storing adequate water in advance for domestic use and keeping taps closed to prevent water loss or damage once the supply is restored.
The planning of this maintenance work has been carefully considered to minimise disruption to residents.
“Sometimes the maintenance work can be more complex than anticipated, which means the work could take longer,” the City added.
Furthermore, residents might notice discoloured or milky water post-restoration, a temporary condition caused by trapped air in the pipes.
