Khawula, known for his audacious online exploits, admitted to the fatal stabbing of his ex-boyfriend Wandile Khambule, in March 2021, claiming it was an act of self-defence.
The scene of the crime was gruesome, with Khawula seen chasing Khambule before inflicting fatal wounds to his chest and back.
On 31 August 2023, a video surfaced on TikTok wherein Khawula candidly admitted to the stabbing incident, recounting graphically to friends how he killed Khambule.
Delving into the background of the victim, Wandile Khambule, a native of Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, relocated to Johannesburg in pursuit of better prospects, eventually establishing himself as a professional photographer in Carletonville.
It was here that he crossed paths with Khawula, and the two quickly became inseparable, plunging into a romantic relationship that was allegedly financially supported by Khawula.
According to anonymous sources, the duo sought a fresh start in Cape Town, but things went south when Khambule reportedly developed a romantic interest in another woman, creating a rift between him and Khawula.
This rift reportedly escalated into a deadly obsession, with Khawula allegedly stalking Khambule, culminating in the fatal confrontation.
Eyewitnesses recounted a chilling narrative of the murder day, where a casual hangout turned deadly following a heated argument between Khawula and Khambule.
Khambule’s screams were the harbingers of the grim reality that unfolded, as Khawula allegedly lured him out, engaged in a brief yet heated argument, and subsequently stabbed him multiple times.
This tragic end to a love story gone awry saw Khawula arrested later on the night of the murder at a nightclub. Despite the gravity of his actions, he was reportedly released on bail after a brief stint in police custody
Separate from the murder case, Khawula found himself embroiled in a legal spat with Celebrity photographer Dumani Khuzwayo.
The Johannesburg High Court on 2 March 2023, mandated Khawula to compensate Khuzwayo to the tune of R500,000, following a slanderous social media onslaught wherein Khawula accused Khuzwayo of engaging in sexual acts for money.
The tweet in question, which was attached to the court papers, maliciously implied that Khuzwayo was likely to contract AIDS due to his alleged activities.
