Buckingham Palace revealed in a statement, on Wednesday, that Prince Harry will attend his father King Charles III’s coronation next month without his wife Meghan Markle.
King Charles III coronation: Here’s why Meghan Markle is missing out
The event is set to take place on Saturday, 6 May 2023 at Westminster Abbey.
While Harry will attend, Markle will remain in California with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The couple’s representatives issued a statement confirming the news.
The decision to attend the coronation without his wife has sparked intrigue, considering the couple’s publicised rocky relationship with the Royals.
Meghan has, on several occasions, accused the Royals of racism and mistreatment.
Despite the mounting speculation, the reason for Meghan’s absence was chalked to their son Archie’s fourth birthday, which, coincidentally, falls on the same weekend as the coronation, giving her a valid excuse to skip out on the event.
Interestingly, speculation is rife that Prince Harry may not be present for the entire three-day celebration of his father’s coronation.
As reported by People Magazine, sources close to the situation claim the Duke of Sussex will only attend the crowning ceremony itself, and miss out on the rest of the festivities to rejoin Markle for their son’s birthday weekend.
Despite this, Prince Harry’s attendance at his father’s coronation is still viewed as a positive step towards repairing the rift between the Royal family and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The British public views the move as significant, as it shows that Prince Harry is willing to set aside his differences with the Royals and prioritize family relationships.
