Early Tuesday morning, a 39-year-old police sergeant from the Mpumalanga police station in Hammarsdale was taken into custody.
He faces charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following an incident on Sunday, 31 March 2024, involving his girlfriend.
“Yesterday, I was brutally beaten by my boyfriend who is a police officer who works at KwaMgaba police station in Hammardale (sp), I didn’t get help to open a case. Please help. I need justice for myself,” Ngcongo wrote on Facebook.
In the aftermath of the arrest, questions arose concerning the initial response to the victim’s plea for help.
