Watch: ANOTHER tiger on the loose in Johannesburg
Details around the horrific sight of yet another rogue feline were still sketchy at the time this article was published.
However, video footage surfaced on social media showing the tiger scouring an office parking lot at approximately 05:22 on Monday, 30 January 2023.
At the time of reporting, the rogue tiger had been spotted on Cabot Avenue, in Eastleigh, Johannesburg. At this juncture, the SPCA has yet to issue an update on its pursuit of the tiger.
It also remains unknown if this tiger is, in any way, linked to Sheba.
Here is the CCTV footage of the tiger’s sighting on Cabot Avenue:
This is the second time in two weeks a rogue tiger was spotted roaming the streets of Johannesburg.
In mid-January, a female tiger named Sheba escaped from a small holding in Johannesburg, where she was kept with Tyson, her male companion, and wreaked havoc in and around the Walkers Fruit Farms.
Before her reign of terror was finally put to an end, Sheba had attacked a pig, two dogs and 39-year-old William Mokoena, who has since been recovering in hospital.
Days after her escape, Sheba was traced to a housing area situated in Walkers Fruit Farms at approximately 01:55 on Wednesday morning and euthanised, a decision the SPCA claimed was not easy.
Sheba’s owner, Rassie Erasmus, has yet to face any criminal culpability for the tiger’s violent spree. He is, however, facing a potential lawsuit from Mokoena, who is being represented by Advocate Zola Majavu.
While it’s been confirmed that Mokoena will pursue relief over Erasmus’ negligence, Majavu warned that “you don’t just rush off suing someone, you have to determine the extent of the negligence.”
“We also have to look at the extent of the injuries so that we are able to quantify the claim. It is still early days,” Mokoena’s lawyer told News24.
This is a developing story.
