A woman linked to the xenophobic ‘Operation Dudula’ movement has law enforcement authorities and a pending vandalism case to thank for surviving what would have been one of the worst Alexandra mob attacks on record.
Watch: ‘Necklaced’ Operation Dudula woman saved from Alexandra mob attack
As reported by Times Live, the 40-year-old woman was attacked by Alexandra residents after she was identified as a member of the Operation Dudula mob that has recently been unlawfully evicting RDP homeowners in the area.
Immediately after being spotted, the woman, whose identity remains unknown, was viciously attacked and laced with tyres. Fortunately, the Alexandra mob was conscientious enough to let the woman plead her case.
This granted law enforcement authorities enough time to intervene before she was burned alive.
According to the leader of the township’s community policing forum Chris Mabunda, the woman was part of a group that led unlawful evictions, claiming RDP houses were wrongfully handed to illegal immigrants when, in fact, they were dispossessing South Africans of their rights to shelter and property.
“They assaulted women who are from SA and some of them sustained injuries. They have been doing it [evictions] and are continuing to do so. In some places they need money [ask for a bribe]. I can’t say why they are doing it because they are the only ones who know,” Mabunda revealed.
What was building up to be one of the worst Alexandra mob attacks in recent history, was quickly de-escalated by police, who rushed the woman to a nearby medical facility and held her in handcuffs on pending malicious damage to property and public violence charges from May 2022.
Here is the video footage of the assault that’s since gone viral.
