A video is doing the rounds on social media showing the moment a very frustrated male patient hurled a container filled with urine at a group of Calcot Dlephu Clinic nurses.
Enraged patient hurls ‘urine bomb’ at Calcot Dlephu Clinic nurses
The unidentified patient’s antics were caught on camera and ‘leaked’ on social media on Thursday, sparking mixed reactions.
While it was initially presumed that the man was angry at a group of nurses who were, in his opinion, lazy and neglecting their duties, Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko confirmed in a statement that the women were, in fact, on lunch when the incident happened
According to the MEC, the incident took place at Calcot Dlephu Clinic in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni, on Friday, 20 January 2023.
“Irrespective of the complaint the member of the public might be having against the health workers, this cannot justify the attack on them. It is uncalled for and we condemn this vulgar act in the strongest possible terms,” Nkomo-Ralehoko said.
The MEC also confirmed that the matter has been escalated to the Gauteng Health Department for further investigation. At this time, the identity of the rogue patient remains unknown.
“I appeal to communities to work with us to end the attack on healthcare workers. On our part we have made a commitment to ensure that we improve patient experience of care at healthcare facilities,” the MEC added.
