A Thai ex-police officer made global headlines for killing 34 people at a pre-school, of which 23 were children.
Thai ex-cop murders 34 at pre-school: Here’s what we know
As reported by BBC News, a man named Panya Kamrab was sought by Thai authorities after he barged into a pre-school in Nong Bua Lamphu province and used a handgun and a knife to commission his ruthless mass murder.
According to reports, at least 34 victims were killed and countless others injured. The murder list includes 23 children, some as young as two.
Immediately, Thai authorities launched a manhunt in search of Kamrab, who, by then, had gained distance and time to finish off his sadistic mission.
Police published an all-points bulletin (APB), warning locals in the Nong Bua Lamphu province to remain indoors and, at whatever cost, refrain from approaching the suspect.
“Public urged to stay at home or in safe places. Assailant, believed to be armed, fled the scene in a vehicle. Police is searching for the person,” a Thai news correspondent wrote at the time.
Thai law enforcement officials report the ex-cop’s lifeless body was discovered hours later after he had gutted his family and thereafter turned the gun on himself.
Police were still working around the clock to determine the motive behind the senseless mass murder at the time this article was published. From what’s known thus far, Kamrab was dismissed from the police force in late 2021 for behavioural issues.
An investigation is underway to track down more background information on the mass murderer.
This is the second mass murder recorded in m in two years. In 2020, a Thai soldier, Jakraphanth Thomma, went on a mass shooting rampage at a shopping centre in Nakhon Ratchasima, killing 29 people. An investigation determined that Thomma launched his sadistic revenge on innocent Thai people over a land dispute.
Thomma was gunned down during a fiery confrontation with police.
