The legendary all-rounder and former Gloucestershire captain is currently recovering at uMhlanga Hospital after suffering a health scare.
In a statement, his family confirmed the cricket legend was in surgery for a routine procedure last week, when he suffered “a cardiac incident.”
“He is currently in the ICU working on his recovery,” the statement to AFP read.
At the time this article was published, the latest update coming from Procter’s ward was positive: he has since been moved from ICU to a normal hospital ward.
Mike Procter’s cricketing journey is nothing short of spectacular. With a career that spanned over decades, Procter distinguished himself as one of the fiercest competitors in the sport.
Renowned for his fast bowling and powerful batting, Procter played for South Africa during the apartheid era, limiting his international exposure.
Despite this, he made a significant impact in English county cricket, especially with Gloucestershire.
Procter was a genuine all-rounder, achieving the rare feat of scoring 100 runs and taking 10 wickets in the same first-class match multiple times.
Post-retirement, he contributed to cricket as a coach, commentator, and administrator.
