In a TikTok post, Lani displayed a screenshot of a text conversation he supposedly had with a Gauteng Health Department representative named “Buhle”.
“This is meant to mislead the public into thinking the bogus doctor has been cleared by the GDoH. The matter will be handed to the police for further investigation,” the department noted.
Matthew’s ‘special needs’ educational background exposed
The Health Department’s disclosure concerning Matthew Lani comes on the heels of an exhaustive investigation into his academic background by the Gauteng Education Department.
The investigation unveiled that Lani doesn’t hold a matriculation or a National Senior Certificate (NSC), refuting an earlier claim he made in a since-deleted TikTok video that he obtained a high school diploma from Cambridge University.
Further debunking Lani’s claims, several institutions, which he alleged to have graduated from, have since disavowed his claims.

Shockingly, Lani had been featured in the Gauteng Health Department’s 2022 Youth Day campaign.
However, in light of the recent findings, criminal charges have been initiated against him for fraudulent practices.
Despite several red flags, Matthew maintains his status as a medical doctor and insists he is employed in the healthcare sector, albeit refusing to share where he works.
Interestingly, though, the content creator, shared that for his 25th birthday (his actual age may be 27, considering he was documented as a 24-year-old in several 2021 interviews and fundraisers launched in that year), he launched Afri-Bloom, a Shopify store selling health and skincare products.
We conducted a scan of the website and, on more than one occasion, found several images taken from other online stores.
An attempt was made to reach Matthew but a response was not returned when this article was published.
