A 51-year-old man, Andries Hendrik Booysen, made an appearance at the Midrand Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, on charges of assault following a controversial incident at Crowthorne Christian Academy.

The incident in question unfolded on Monday, 14 August 2023, stemming from a disagreement between the school principal and a mother of a learner regarding the school’s hair policy.
The disagreement revolved around the learner’s dreadlock hairstyle, which the school deemed to be against its policy.
Alleged Violent Confrontation
As tensions flared during the disagreement, it is reported that Andries Hendrik Booysen, the husband of the school principal, allegedly engaged in a violent altercation with both the learner and her mother.
This alleged confrontation was captured on video and subsequently went viral on social media platforms.

Following the incident, Andries Hendrik Booysen was arrested on Thursday, 17 August 2023 on charges of assault. He appeared in the Midrand Magistrates’ Court, facing accusations related to his alleged physical interactions during the altercation.
Bail and Conditions
Booysen was granted bail in the amount of R2 000. As a condition of his bail, he is prohibited from making any form of contact with state witnesses involved in the case, either directly or indirectly.
The case has been adjourned to 2 October 2023, allowing for further investigations to take place and evidence to be thoroughly examined.
