Andrew Tate had social media buzzing when it was revealed the former professional kickboxer was banned from Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
Why was Andrew Tate banned from Facebook, Instagram, TikTok
Fans of the 2016 Big Brother UK participant took to social media to air their frustrations with the collective decision taken by social media giants to indefinitely ban Tate.
At first, no reason was given for the cross-platform ban, and Tate appeared in a live interview with famous streamer Adin Ross, where even he indicated he had no idea why he was blocked from accessing his social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
“I don’t know exactly why they banned me. I just tried to log in on Instagram and it wouldn’t let me. I have good people on the case, I trust due process with Instagram. I’m actually quite understanding of their position. I do understand it very, very well. I’m not angry at them in any regard. It’s not a big loss for me. It’s not something I use too often,” he said.
In a statement to NPR, Meta, the parent company that owns Facebook and Instagram, revealed the decision to ban Tate was a result of his violation of its policies regarding hate speech and dangerous individuals.
TikTok, on the other hand, was more forthcoming with its decision to ban Tate and made it categorically clear that the former kickboxer was booted from the platform for his misogynistic content.
“Our investigation into this content is ongoing, as we continue to remove violative accounts and videos, and pursue measures to strengthen our enforcement, including our detection models, against this type of content,” the platform noted in a statement to NPR.
