Are Qatar Airways flights to and from South Africa still banned?
In a tweet, DIRCO’s Head of Public Diplomacy Clayson Monyela indicated that a message was received from the Embassy of Qatar in Pretoria that from Sunday 12 December 2021, flights to and from South Africa via Qatar Airways will resume.
Monyela added that under the revised resumption of operations, the Arab country’s national carrier will have two flights available in Johannesburg and one departing from Cape Town daily.
Durban passengers travelling outbound with Qatar Airways will have to depart from one of the two above-mentioned regions, as only inbound flights will resume from Sunday, Monyela explained.
Message received from our friends @QatarEmb_PRT…@qatarairways resumption of 2 ways inbound & outbound flights to 🇿🇦.

Monyela’s announcement comes weeks after Qatar Airways followed the direction of European and US carriers in cancelling in and outbound flights to South Africa due to the Omicron outbreak.
With immediate effect, passengers will no longer be accepted for travel from South Africa and Zimbabwe on #QatarAirways flights, we will continue to review the situation on a daily basis as new information becomes available from the WHO.
