Alexander Zhadan’s journey to finding love was not your average tale of swipes and first dates. Instead, it was a meticulously crafted project that blended technology with the quest for a genuine connection.
How Alexander Zhadan used ChatGPT to find his soulmate on Tinder
Using ChatGPT, Zhadan navigated the vast seas of Tinder to eventually find Karina Imranovna, marking a groundbreaking moment in digital love stories.
A Tech-Savvy Search for Love
After ending a two-year relationship in 2021, Zhadan was clear about wanting a new relationship without the hassle and heartbreak of mismatched connections.
His solution? A combination of GPT-3, ChatGPT, and a well-thought-out script to filter through Tinder’s prospects in Moscow and St Petersburg.
Zhadan’s approach was systematic: use AI to swipe right, initiate conversations, and sift through potential matches based on compatibility.
Initially, the AI struggled with keeping conversations engaging, often repeating questions and making awkward date suggestions, like hanging out in the forest.
However, as ChatGPT evolved, so did Zhadan’s method. By fine-tuning the AI to consider previous messages and integrating photo recognition to filter profiles, Zhadan significantly improved his chances of finding a match that met his criteria.
From Digital Dialogues to Real-Life Romance
The true breakthrough came with the introduction of memory and custom tools in ChatGPT, in July 2023, allowing Zhadan to tailor the AI’s responses more closely to his personality.
This personalisation, combined with strategic filters to eliminate less compatible matches, led to better conversations and more meaningful connections.
Out of almost a thousand matches, ChatGPT helped Zhadan narrow it down to 12 in-person meetings.
By asking ChatGPT to summarise conversations and build profiles of his dates, Zhadan could approach each meeting with a clear understanding of their previous interactions.
The Path to Proposal
The turning point in Zhadan’s search came when ChatGPT, after summarising his chat with Karina, unexpectedly suggested he marry her.
Though initially sceptical, Zhadan recognised the unique connection they shared and devised a proposal plan with ChatGPT’s help.
Following the AI’s guidance, he proposed, and Karina said yes.
In the end, after spending roughly 120 hours and $1 432 (est. R27 097) for the API, and 200 rubles (roughly R40) on restaurant bills, Zhahad, much to ChatGPT’s credit, will walk down the aisle with his soulmate in August 2024.
