Capitec was, yet again, the cause of frustration after clients were locked out of their accounts on Thursday.
UPDATE: Capitec Bank services restored.
After two days of heightened frustration experienced by millions of its clients, Capitec confirmed in a tweet that its services have returned to normal operations. Still, the financial institution has yet to issue a statement addressing the cause of the blackout.
Is Capitec still not working?
The Global One-owned financial institution caused heartache and widespread inconvenience on Thursday when most clients inexplicably lost access to the bank’s transaction facilities.
Some users could not access their funds due to an unknown error, while others reported getting ‘insufficient fund’ notifications when trying to use money available in their accounts.
Capitec issued a blanket statement confirming they were aware of the issues experienced by most clients on the banking app, internet banking and USSD services.
“We want to assure you that we are on it and doing everything possible to resolve the issue. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience. ATMs and cards are working,” the bank wrote in a tweet.
At this time, the bank has not revealed the root cause of the error. When asked by a client what the turnaround time was in returning services, the bank simply stated that it was unable to confirm this.
“As soon as the matter is resolved, you will be able to transact,” the bank responded.
