Capitec customers were left frustrated on Tuesday when for some strange reason, the banking app would not process login attempts.
Why Capitec customers can’t login on the app
Social media was abuzz with outrage over the technical issue faced by at least 62% of Capitec Bank’s customers. Each login attempt, despite passing all security steps, returned an error, leaving thousands of users exasperated.
One user took to Twitter to share how their plans were totally ruined by the technical glitch.

While the popular South African financial services company has not issued an official statement with detailed information on the cause of the app login error, Capitec did some social media management and issued a scripted response to complaints about the issue.
According to the bank, the Capitec app experienced some “temporary downtime.”
“Our IT team is working hard to keep these issues to a minimum,” Capitec told users.
Here’s how you can troubleshoot the problem
For the most part, it seems that customers have no choice but to wait patiently for the bank’s tech team to sort out the login issue.
According to tracking information on Downtime Detector, reports of the login error were recorded as early as 06:00 on Tuesday, with 62% of customers experiencing issues with the mobile banking app, compared to 37% who could not access internet banking via a desktop/browser.
This is the fourth time, in 2021, Capitec Bank has experienced similar issues with its technical infrastructure.
The bank has advised customers to restart their devices and try logging in again and from the reactions we observed from users who’ve followed this simple troubleshooting method, it seems to work.
