A group of thugs carried out a daring robbery at the Canal Walk Shopping Mall, making off with valuable IT equipment from a store specialising in pre-loved Apple products.
Gomaxx store in Canal Walk emptied by brazen robbers
In an audacious early morning heist, the gomaxx. store at Canal Walk Shopping Mall became the target of a well-orchestrated robbery.
As reported by Cape Argus, the thieves, exploiting the mall’s early hours, forcefully entered the store and swiftly stole about 16 Apple MacBooks from the glass displays.
Sources reveal the robbery occurred just after 05:00, with the entire operation executed in less than six minutes.
The criminals, using a white Toyota Quantum taxi, managed a rapid entry and exit, avoiding security detection and bypassing the need to even pay for parking since Canal Walk’s boom gate system allows free access to the shopping complex for the first 15 minutes.
Footage shows the robbers’ calculated approach: driving through Entrance 6, parking near the store, and then quickly smashing their way in to grab the laptops.
The speed and efficiency of the robbery suggest meticulous planning and knowledge of the mall’s layout and security protocols, albeit the mall would not be roped into speculation around a possible inside job.
The police, alerted to the incident, have confirmed the robbery and are actively investigating, with no arrests made yet.
The mall’s security footage has captured critical details, including the vehicle’s registration plate, although it is suspected that at least one plate was counterfeit.
