Days have past since actress Amanda Du-Pont sounded off the alarm bells about alleged rapist Jub Jub and recently, a women’s rights activist group launched a campaign to have the rapper blackballed.
Women For Change SA launches ‘mute Jub Jub’ campaign
Founded by Catch Me If You Can, an all-women health and fitness group, Women For Change SA has amplified calls for corporate South Africa to act decisively against Jub Jub, real name Molemo Maarohanye.
“Still this man has a career as a South African media personality and Hip-Hop artist and is given a safe space on ‘Podcast with MacG to discuss his abuse! It’s disgusting and sickening – So once again let’s use the power of social media and get this man muted and back into jail! Justice needs to be served!” the activist group wrote after listing his alleged sexual crimes.
Is Maarohanye facing criminal charges?
Since the allegations were levelled against him, Jub Jub has kept away from social media, opting to take the high road by disabling comments on his pages.
However, according to a close friend who, in the face of backlash that’s since spilled onto the rapper’s mother Jacqueline ‘Mama Jackie’ Maarohanye, has assumed the role of family spokesperson, Jub Jub is making every effort to clear up his name behind the scenes.
In a statement released this weekend, Andile Ngcobo confirmed the family is pursuing criminal charges against Du-Pont as her claims were “clearly concocted to injure and defame our son’s name, which he is working hard to safeguard.”
“Molemo and his management team would not leave the claims unattended and have since taken a decision to serve Amanda du Pont, Maschaba Khumalo, Refilwe Khumalo and Bonokuhle Nkala with letters of demand with clear instructions that they should retract the unfounded allegations made against him, and ultimately apologise for their claims,” the family spokesperson revealed.
At this time, no indication has risen on whether Maarohanye is under investigation over claims made by the above-mentioned women.
Moja Love TV seems to be the only corporate partner to have taken action against the Uyajola 9/9 host.
