The funeral of Zoleka Mandela will take place later this week, albeit not before her legacy is honoured at a memorial service.
When is Zoleka Mandela funeral?
The granddaughter of South Africa’s first democratic president Nelson Mandela and struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela died on Monday, 25 September 2023, after a long-fought battle with cancer.
The Mandela family has since released a programme of events set to take place ahead of her funeral.
On Wednesday at 18:00, political leaders and the general public will be hosted at the Mandela family home in Soweto, Gauteng, for a prayer session.
Thereafter, Zoleka Mandela’s eventful life will be celebrated at a memorial service held at the same venue on Thursday, 28 September 2023. Proceedings are expected to kick off at 15:00 and, from our understanding, the public is welcome to attend the occasion.

Zoleka Mandela will be laid to rest on Friday, 29 September 2023. Funeral proceedings are expected to kick off at the Bryanston Methodist Church from 09:00.
This event too may be live-streamed and, if so, the video feed will be embedded below. Therefore, be sure to bookmark this page and return to it regularly to check on updates.
Following a well-documented journey fighting a terminal case of bone metastasis, Mandela, whose grandmother was the fierce struggle stalwart and martyr of women’s rights Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, succumbed to her third cancer diagnosis.
In a statement released by her family, it was revealed the 43-year-old died during treatment for cancer of the hip, liver, lung, pelvis, brain and spinal cord.
In a bizarre and tragic coincidence, Zoleka’s death came a day before her grandmother’s posthumous 81st birthday, which was honoured with the renaming of William Nicol Drive to Winnie Mandela Drive.
