The fiery scene was caught on camera by passers-by in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. By then, the raging inferno had engulfed a considerable area of the restaurant.
Details about what caused the Menlyn Summit Skybar fire were sketchy when this article was published. It’s presumed Pretoria fire and rescue services were at the scene, dousing the inferno and condoning the area to commence with a search for victims, at the time of publishing.
Summit Skybar is situated in and around several businesses in Garsfontein. It’s unclear, at this stage, if the fire affected neighbouring shops.
This is a developing story.

Elsewhere, Pretoria rescue teams were on high alert on Tuesday evening after a Spring thunderstorm descended on several parts of the nation’s capital, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
As residents hunkered down for what proved to be a tumultuous evening, they faced the brunt of nature’s fury.
Reports began flooding in of structural damage in various parts of Pretoria, with some areas witnessing the uprooting of trees.
The extent of the destruction was not limited to Pretoria alone, as the storm’s wrath extended to Koster and Rustenburg, causing havoc in these regions as well.
Interestingly, in a twist of weather fortune, the weather authority predicted favourable conditions for the following day, with Wednesday expected to bring clear skies and maximum temperatures reaching 29 degrees Celsius.
