Without warning, Eskom announced Stage 6 will take over this week’s loadshedding schedule starting from 05:00 on Tuesday, 5 September 2023.
Stage 6 loadshedding rocks this week’s loadshedding schedule
In a statement released on Monday early evening, the embattled electricity supplier revealed that the decision to escalate rolling blackouts was due to “the loss of a further two generation units today.”
“Overnight, a further two units at Lethabo and Matla power stations will need to be shutdown for urgent repairs. Eskom will publish another update should any significant changes occur,” the power utility noted.
Therefore, barring no immediate changes to this week’s loadshedding schedule, South Africans will likely have to endure days of power interruptions for up to four hours at a time.
Eskom’s update comes hours after the utility released this week’s loadshedding schedule, which featured a pattern of Stage 4 and Stage 5 outages.
“Since yesterday, a generating unit each at Kriel and Medupi power stations was taken offline for repairs. In the same period, a generating unit at Arnot, Kendal, Kriel and Lethabo power stations were returned to service,” Eskom revealed.
The embattled power utility assured the public that “Eskom teams are working tirelessly to return these generating units to service.”
