British rapper Slowthai, whose real name is Tyron Frampton, has entered a plea of not guilty in the rape case against him.
Slowthai enters ‘not guilty’ plea
The charges stem from an incident in Oxford, England, in September 2021, where he is accused of non-consensual oral and vaginal penetration of a woman.
Slowthai appeared in court in Oxford on Thursday alongside co-defendant Alex Blake Walker, who faces charges of raping the same woman and sexually assaulting another individual.
Both defendants have vehemently denied the allegations.
Limited information has been disclosed about the specifics of the case thus far. Slowthai, 28 years old, expressed his innocence in a now-deleted statement on Twitter, vehemently denying the charges and asserting his confidence in being exonerated.
He called for respect for the legal process and the privacy of his family during this time.
Slowthai rape trial date confirmed
The trial is scheduled to commence in July 2024. Both Slowthai and Walker have been released on bail until then, pending further proceedings.
The outcome of the trial will determine the resolution of these serious allegations against the prominent rapper.
Slowthai gained recognition with his critically acclaimed debut album, Nothing Great About Britain, in 2019.
The album achieved commercial success, reaching No. 9 on the UK albums chart and receiving a nomination for the prestigious Mercury Prize.
Subsequently, his second album, Tyron, topped the charts in the United Kingdom and earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording.
Throughout his career, Slowthai has collaborated with various artists, including A$AP Rocky, Tyler, The Creator, Denzel Curry, Skepta, and Gorillaz.
In March of this year, he released his third album, UGLY, aiming to expand his artistic horizons and deliver a unique musical experience.
As the trial approaches, all eyes will be on the legal proceedings surrounding Slowthai’s case. The outcome will have significant implications for the rapper’s future, both personally and professionally.
