Acclaimed rapper Slowthai, known for his Grammy and Mercury Prize nominations, made a court appearance on charges of rape, as reported by The Guardian.

The artist, whose real name is Tyron Frampton, was granted bail and is set to appear before the crown court next month.
Via video link, Slowthai appeared before the Oxfordshire magistrates court on Tuesday, 16 May 2023.
He faces charges related to an incident in Oxford that occurred in September 2021, specifically involving allegations of oral and vaginal penetration without the woman’s consent. During the hearing, Slowthai only spoke to confirm his real name, date of birth and his address in Northampton.
Prosecutor Adam Yar Khan highlighted to the magistrates that the charge of rape is considered an “indictable-only” offence and must be heard at the crown court.
Following his court appearance, Slowthai took to social media to release a statement asserting his innocence. In the message, he stated:
“Regarding the allegations being reported about me, I categorically deny the charges. I am innocent and I am confident my name will be cleared. Until then, I will apply my energy to ensure this is concluded swiftly and justly.”
Slowthai’s musical career has garnered significant recognition. In 2021, he received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording, while his sophomore album, “Tyron,” topped the UK charts. On 3 March 2023, he released his third studio album, “UGLY.”
As the legal process unfolds, Slowthai awaits his next court appearance, where the charges against him will be further examined and assessed by the crown court.
