Hollywood mainstay Reese Witherspoon and her talent-agent husband Jim Toth announced their divorce only days before the couple was due to celebrate their 12-year wedding anniversary.
Reese Witherspoon divorces Jim Toth: Here’s what we know
In a joint statement, Witherspoon and Toth revealed that following “a great deal of care and consideration,” a decision was reached to proceed with unbundling a 12-year nuptial union.
Details on the cause of the split remain unknown. However, according to a PEOPLE source, Witherspoon’s divorce is far from messy. In fact, the source added, “they really are the best of friends and this is such an amicable decision.”
“They are so committed to co-parenting together. They are invested in their whole family and making this as smooth as possible for everyone,” the source revealed.
In announcing their divorce, Witherspoon and Toth reflected on “so many wonderful years together,” and vowed to move forward with “deep love, kindness and mutual respect for everything we have created together.”
“Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter. These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time,” the joint statement read.
Witherspoon and Toth first met and fell in love several months after the Your Place Or Mine actress broke things off with Jake Gyllenhaal in 2009.
By December 2010, the couple announced their engagement and went on to tie the knot in a laid-back ceremony held on her Ojai ranch, three months later, in March 2011.
Together, Witherspoon and Toth share their 10-year-old son Tennessee James. Toth also played a stepfather role in the lives of Witherspoon’s daughter, Ava (23) and son Deacon (19), whom she had with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.
