Infamous gossiper Musa Khawula was reportedly in Cape Town on Monday to appear in court for the murder of his former lover, Wandile Khambule.
UPDATE: Musa Khawula’s murder case at a regional court in Vredenburg, Cape Town, has been postponed to 19 October 2022 to allow the gossiper’s state-funded attorney time to transfer his matter to an eligible private practitioner. In all likelihood, the matter may yet suffer another delay on his next appearance since he may have a new defence lawyer.
Musa Khawula in court for murder: Here’s the latest
On Monday, scores of gossip feinds were gobbling up the blogger’s wild and uncensored celebrity reports, completely unaware he was tweeting from a courthouse in Vredenburg, Cape Town.
According to reports, Khawula surfaced at the court on Monday, where a decision was made not to allow the media inside. It’s said the blogger has recruited a legal aid lawyer as his defence in the murder case.
Khawula’s court appearance relates to the vicious murder of Vredenburg resident, Khambule, who, according to an investigation carried out by Swisher Post in April 2022, was, at one point, his romantic partner.
In a statement quoted by IOL News earlier in September 2022, police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that Khawula was, indeed, the prime suspect accused of murdering Khambule on Goud Street, Ongegund, Vredenburg, on 4 March 2022.
Police were called out to the scene at approximately 19:36 on that fateful evening, where “they found a male lying on the ground, with a stab wound to his stomach.”
Khawula has, on numerous occasions, vehemently asserted that he stabbed Khambule out of self-defence. In one of his popular Twitter Spaces, the gossiper claimed he only stabbed Khambule after he’d allegedly attacked him with a beer bottle.
“We continued fighting and later a guy came (and) separated the fight. I left immediately because I thought if he comes up again, he’s literally going to finish me,” Khawula claimed.
This account was, however, rubbished by Khambule’s girlfriend, Sweetness Jaftha. In an explosive tell-all interview with Sunday World, Jaftha confirmed Khambule was at her Vredenburg residence with friends on the evening he was killed by Khawula.
According to the girlfriend, Khawula had surfaced at the residence demanding to speak to Khambule. In a decision she may still regret, Jaftha insisted Khambule give his ex an audience.
“When I checked to see what was happening outside, I saw Khawula running after Khambule with a big knife (and) stabbing him, he fell in front of my brother’s bakkie. I then asked one of my friends to go (and) try to stop what was happening. He stabbed him in his chest and at the back.” she recalled.
These claims and more will form part of what promises to be an intriguing murder trial. Khawula’s court appearance on Monday had not concluded at the time this article was published.
