More details surface on Mia Kühn cause of death
As reported by The Citizen, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has obtained CCTV footage from the school premises as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident. Although the autopsy has been completed, the official report from the doctor is still pending.
In a statement released on Sunday, acting as the family spokesperson, Jacques Broodryk addressed the widespread speculation surrounding Mia’s death and confirmed that all evidence points to a tragic accident.
According to the family, Mia reportedly fell to her death while attempting to climb one of the poles of the floodlights surrounding the rugby field.
The devastating discovery of Mia’s body was made by a security officer during his rounds on Tuesday morning at approximately 08:00. The Gauteng Education MEC, Matome Chiloane, classified her death as “unnatural” and confirmed that an inquest has been opened.
It remains unclear how Mia gained access to the school premises during the winter holidays, which lasted for three weeks.
Expressing their gratitude for the love and support they have received from the community, the family is still struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of Mia.
They requested privacy during this difficult time and will not be providing further comments.
A memorial service is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 12 July, at the Dutch Reformed Church in Valleisig, where Mia will be remembered and honoured by her loved ones and the community.
