The community is in mourning as tributes pour in following the tragic discovery of a Grade 10 pupil’s lifeless body on the premises of Garsfontein High School.
Garsfontein school death: How did Mia Kühn gain access to school premises?
The body of Mia Kühn was found by a school groundsman, who immediately alerted the authorities. It has been reported that Mia’s family had recently reported her missing, making the discovery all the more harrowing.
Gauteng’s education member of the executive council (MEC), Matome Chiloane, revealed that Mia Kühn was known to be at home on Monday evening.
However, when her parents woke up the following day, she was nowhere to be found. It is believed that Mia slipped out later in the night, and her absence led her concerned family to report her as missing.
The shocking turn of events unfolded when the police received an alert about a scene at the school, where Mia’s lifeless body was discovered.
Intriguingly, authorities are still grappling with the perplexing question of how Mia gained entry into the school premises.
Chiloane emphasised the urgency of the investigation, urging the police to expedite their efforts.
The community is deeply affected by this tragedy, and it is crucial to swiftly bring this case to a resolution, allowing the healing process to commence, Chiloane stressed.
Acting on instructions from Chiloane, the Hoërskool Garsfontein board has refrained from issuing an official statement until all necessary protocols have been followed.
However, in a heartfelt Facebook post, the board expressed their profound shock and sadness at the devastating incident.
They extended their heartfelt support to Mia’s family, requesting that the community come together in prayer and solidarity to provide comfort during this immensely difficult time. Recognising the impact of such a tragedy on the school staff, the board has also arranged for counselling services to be available.
“In this difficult time, support is very valuable. Any Garcie or staff needing counselling can send an email to [email protected] za send, to which they will be put in contact with professional advisors. We are so very sad with the family and our prayers for strength and comfort go out to them. Please carry them as a community in your prayers and support,” the board noted.
