Acclaimed music producer Neo Makwa left fans and peers worried after he published a cryptic post on Instagram.
What is the latest update on Makwa?
Social media was abuzz with concern when the hitmaker left a caption-less post reading, “until we meet again” on his page, a phrase often used in suicide letters.
In a climate where, not too long ago, South Africa’s entertainment industry was rocked by the untimely death of Riky Rick, a post of this nature was a shocker to fans and peers.
In the comments, Zimbabwean dancehall star Buffalo Souljah pleaded with Makwa to “not let the devil win,” while AKA and DJ Switch begged the producer to “not give up”.
Makwa has been vocal about his battle with depression and financial struggles brought on by the cut-throat nature of the music industry.
In late September 2021, Makwa was blasted by DJ Maphorisa in a heated debacle where the Scorpion Kings star accused the producer of copying his signature sound on Kwesta’s Spirit.
“You copied my wave from Ngud‘ by Kwesta and you created Spirit etc. Fix yourself and f***ing work hard for your s***. Lazy boys, all you do is just copy and paste. Start your own s***, you [are] disgusting. I hope you stopped drinking lean, I’m disappointed,” Maphorisa wrote in a Facebook post.
A few months before that, Makwa was at the centre of a saga involving Kwesta’s RapLyf Records.
Following his appearance on The Sobering Podcast, the producer lambasted the likes of DJ Fistaz Mixwell, controversial culture commenter Nota Baloyi and other figures of the music label, for allegedly stealing millions of rand from him.
With worries growing on the producer’s current state, his colleague and friend TLT revealed Makwa was doing alright and only needs space.
Everyone calling texting about Makwa,he’s fine he just want to be given space thanks. 🙏🏿
