Several areas in Lagos have been severely affected by flash floods following heavy rainfall that began on Friday night (15 September 2023) and continued into the early hours of Saturday.

According to reports, residents reported flooding on major roads, streets, and even into homes, causing damage to property.
The worst-hit areas include:
- Lagos-Badagry Expressway
- Ebute-Ero
- Lagos Island
- Satellite Town
- Trade Fair
- Abule-Ado
- Ago Palace Way, among others.
The heavy rains resulted in blocked roads, leaving hundreds of motorists and passengers stranded.

Commuters were forced to abandon vehicles and walk long distances due to the disruption caused by the floods.
Local residents have shared their experiences of the floods on social media, with reports of flooded streets, damaged appliances, and disrupted daily routines.
In some areas, places of worship, like the Arch Angel Church, were also affected, causing concerns about upcoming religious services.
Nigeria weather forecast: Torrential rainfall, thunderstorms expected
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather outlook indicating that cloudy and thundery weather conditions are expected from Monday to Wednesday across the country.
Thunderstorms, moderate to heavy rains, and strong winds are anticipated in various regions during this period.

“Cloudy skies with spells of sunshine are anticipated over the North Central region with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State during the morning hours.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rains are envisaged over parts of Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue and the Federal Capital Territory,” NiMet warned.
NiMet has advised the public to exercise caution, especially in flood-prone areas, as moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to flash floods. It also urged airline operators to stay informed about weather reports to ensure the safety of their operations.
“All Airline operators are advised to avail themselves of weather reports/alerts periodically from NiMet for effective planning for their operations,” NiMet added.
