Kudzai Mushonga, after hours of searching relentlessly for his girlfriend Khanyi Mbau in the expansive streets of Dubai, UAE, found closure in the worst way possible.
Khanyi Mbau was never missing
Turns out the radio host was never missing, after all. Unbeknownst to Mushonga, Mbau had booked a first class Qatar flight to South Africa right after she was dropped off at her nail appointment.
In the Instagram Story she posted at approximately 18:00 on Monday, Mbau was seen doing her nails while on a video call with her brother Lasizwe Dambuza.
It would seem that after this conversation, Mbau had a change of heart about her experience in Dubai. After fans were sent into a frenzy, fearing for the worst, Mbau resurfaced on social media with an image of herself kneeling in front of her father’s tombstone in Johannesburg, Gauteng (this post has since been deleted).
Kudzai Mushonga speaks out: Here’s what he said
Mushonga, who was on Instagram documenting his search for Mbau the entire time, finally found closure in the decision his girlfriend made in jetting off to South Africa unannounced.
The Zimambwean businessman went on Instagram Live, sobbing away as he came to terms with Mbau’s actions. The radio host, without uttering a single word or giving off any signals, broke the couple’s vow in pursuing a better life in a new country and opted to return home.
“Guys, my mother has been saying ‘Kudzai get your passport, get your bags, go to America. You can stay in America, leave this woman’, and I made her listen to this voice note. I say, ‘babe listen to what my mom said ‘cos you and I are honest,” he lamented.
Here’s the full clip from the now-deleted IGTV post where Mushonga goes into further detail about the events that transpired earlier this week:
What is Mushonga not revealing?
Mbau has not made any further engagements on the subject since she touched down in Mzansi on Tuesday evening. For the most part, her celebrity brother, Dambuza, who’s believed to be the one who financed the emergency return flight, has been one posting updates on his sister.
As internet sherlocks continue probing the couple’s scandal, screenshots that surfaced on social media showing Dambuza’s comments in Mushonga IG Live raised questions about the boyfriend’s culpability in Mbau’s Dubai escape.
The entire time, Dambuza was seen pleading with Mushonga to end the Live feed and stop berating Mbau’s credibility. To these requests, the Zimbabwean businessman said:

However, things took a southerly turn when Dambuza warned Mushonga about something that allegedly took place on a particular morning, between the boyfriend and Mbau.

It remains unclear, at this time, what Dambuza meant in his warning. However, Mushonga has vehemently denied ever laying hands on Mbau.
Of course, his version of events will have to be weighed against hers and right now, Mbau is not saying a word.
Here is the most recent video post (it’s since been deleted) from Mushonga where he still struggles to come to terms with Mbau’s escape.
