South Africa’s media landscape has been shaken by reports that veteran journalist Karima Brown has passed away.

Details around Brown’s passing continue to trickle in. The news was broken by SABC News‘ televised morning programme.
In a statement, the reporter’s family confirmed that Brown had been admitted to hospital two weeks ago, after contracting the virus.
“We are massively grateful for and humbled by the countless messages of support, and prayers, during Karima’s recent hospitalisation. These comfort us as a familyduring this profoundly painful experience of loss,” the statement read.

The Brown family has confirmed that the seasoned journalist will be laid to rest “in a burial ceremony which will be held in accordance with Islamic rites and traditions.”
“In due course, an announcement will be made about a more public memorial service in honour of Karima’s life,” the family statement concluded.
