Many people have come across today’s Google Doodle of Tim Bergling most known as Avicii. On Wednesday 8 September 2021, Bergling would’ve turned 32.
What we know about Tim Bergling
Bergling was a Swedish DJ, remixer, record producer, musician, and songwriter.
His most popular songs were:
- Wake Me Up
- The Nights
- Waiting for Love
His big break happened when he was just 16 years old, posting remixes on electronic forums. This was how he scored his first record deal.
Avicii had, since his record deal, been wildly successful. His most popular song had reached over two billion views on YouTube. The globe-shaped arena in Sweden was even named after him following his death.
He has redefined dance pop by his use of electronic and the combination of other music genres.
Why is Google Doodle honouring him?
The pressures of fame, success and wealth became too much and sadly, Avicii took his own life in 2018. In honour of Bergling and National Suicide Prevention Week, Alyssa Winans, Olivia When and Sophie Diao drew the Google Doodle.
The actual doodle is of a young man, Bergling, playing the keyboard with headphones on and speakers behind him. The drawing is of a sketch and uses an overlay of bright colors.
His father shared his thought on the doodle and Bergling’s legacy.
“The Doodle is fantastic; my family and I feel honoured and Tim would have been very proud and love it. It is a friendly and warm story of a young man fulfilling his dream to be a DJ and at the same time telling us that our journey in life is not always easy despite fame and fortune.”

Alyssa Winans, one of the artists of the doodle says that she hopes people continue to cherish Avicii’s memory. Many people struggling with mental health see Bergling as an inspiration.
“Seeing the strength Tim showed during both the inspiring and difficult realities of his story in turn gave me strength.”
