Frank Ocean‘s highly anticipated Sunday night performance at the 2023 Coachella festival left many fans disappointed and rumblings suggest the singer may pull the plug on the second leg of his headlining weekend.
2023 Coachella: Frank Ocean blasted for lacklustre performance
The singer kicked off his set an hour late, already putting him in a sour position with the crowd. The dimly lit stage and low-hanging lighting fixtures often blocked him from view, leaving fans watching most of his performance on large screens.
Despite hinting at a new album during his long-winded speech, fans of the Orange crooner took to social media to blast Frank, who, they claim, appeared lethargic throughout his limited set and even struggled to sing at times.
Not only were his pre-recorded vocals playing over the sound system, but he couldn’t even muster up the energy to mouth the words.
For some reason, Frank chose not to play his most famous tunes such as “Thinkin’ Bout You,” and instead, opted for less recognisable songs that left fans confused.
Several eyewitnesses took the whining to TMZ, claiming the show was disorganised and left crowds annoyed with plenty of downtimes and awkward silences. To make matters worse, Frank abruptly ended his one-hour performance with a lacklustre one-liner that drew ire from social media:
“Guys, I’m being told it’s curfew, so that’s the end of the show.”
Frank Ocean’s set was one of the most anticipated performances at 2023 Coachella. He was billed as the Sunday night headliner, and fans had high expectations for the reclusive singer’s return to the stage.
However, the lacklustre performance left fans feeling let down and frustrated.
The disappointment comes as a surprise since Frank Ocean has been known to put on captivating live performances in the past. In 2012, he performed at the same festival and left fans in awe with his powerful vocals and electric stage presence. However, this time around, it seems like something was amiss.
As for Coachella, it remains to be seen how this performance will affect the second weekend’s billing. At this juncture, it seems unlikely Frank will return as the festival headliner. However, Coachella organisers have yet to issue a statement addressing the speculation.
