The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that contrary to allegations, its rape case against renowned jockeys, DJ Fresh and Euphonik is still dormant, with no new evidence.
DJ Fresh, Euphonik rape case is still dormant
As reported by Tshisa Live, claims made by the duo’s accuser regarding the status of the rape case docket, a woman identified on social media as ‘Nampree’, were untrue.
“The status of the matter remains the same, no new information has come to light,” NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said in a statement.
The NPA did, however, confirm that police are actively investigating fresh leads and closing in on old leads in a bid to bring closure to the case.
“In a case where there has been no prosecution, investigation strands that were not initially pursued because of time limitations for example, might be pursued to see if they will yield anything new, that might perhaps lead to a reconsideration of the matter,” the NPA added.
The case against Euphonik and Fresh, who recently announced the end of his 20-year marriage to soon-to-be ex-wife Thabiso Sikwane, was stricken off the roll in February 2021 due to insufficient evidence.
The alleged victim sent social media into a raucous this time last year when, in a series of tweets, she accused Fresh and Euphonik of drugging and allegedly sexually assaulting her.
Fresh has also surfaced as an alleged sexual assaulter in cases lodged by his former partner Penny Libyane and Ntsiki Mazwai.
