In a surprising turn of events, popular Kaya FM host Dineo Ranaka has reportedly left the hospital in Pretoria against medical advice, choosing to continue her recovery from the comfort of her own home.
Why did Dineo Ranaka check herself out of hospital?
Ranaka’s departure comes after she was admitted to a mental health care facility earlier in the week, following her public disclosure about her ill health.
As reported by Sunday World, sources close to the matter reveal that Ranaka discharged herself from the hospital merely three days after her admission due to a heated altercation she had with a healthcare worker.
According to an anonymous source within the hospital, the incident occurred when Ranaka approached a healthcare worker who was engrossed in a phone conversation, mistakenly believing that the individual was attempting to capture videos of her.
The source explained,
“Dineo assumed the person on the phone was trying to take a picture, and she confronted him. The situation escalated when the person retorted for her to be quiet, leading to a confrontation where he expressed that she should not direct her frustrations towards him.”
Despite receiving advice against leaving the facility, it appears that Ranaka remained resolute in her decision and proceeded with her self-discharge.
Attempts to reach out to Ranaka were unsuccessful at the time this article was published.
Ranaka’s behaviour leaves fans deeply concerned
Earlier this week, Ranaka garnered immense support from her fans and well-wishers when news broke about her admission to the hospital.
Her decision to seek professional help and openly discuss her mental health struggles, including her battle with depression, resonated with many.
Messages of encouragement flooded in, with both fans and her employer expressing solidarity and offering words of support during her challenging journey.
In the wake of Ranaka’s absence from her radio hosting duties, Kaya FM‘s managing director, Colleen Louw, expressed the station’s unwavering support for Ranaka’s well-being. A statement released by the station read,
“Dineo hasn’t been on air this morning after openly sharing her struggles on social media.” The statement further conveyed their wishes for her strength and resilience as she navigates through her personal battle.
As Ranaka takes the time to recuperate, Sizwe Dhlomo has temporarily assumed her role on Kaya FM, ensuring the smooth continuation of programming.
