Cassper Nyovest rose to the occasion as SA Hip-Hop’s elder statesman and opened the dialogue of a possible truce with fellow hitmaker Emtee.
Cassper Nyovest issues public apology
The Put Your Hands Up rapper issued a public apology to Emtee, referencing a particular incident that may have hurt him.
“I told you to your face to that I was sorry about the incident,” Nyovest wrote in a tweet.
Nyovest was responding to a snippet of Emtee’s recent Instagram Live broadcast, where he was heard praising Cassper as his idol and revealing that “the album that inspired [him] to go out and really get this s*** was his first album, ‘Tsholofelo‘.”
“I love him, I f*** with him. I never had a problem with him. I was just mad when he had some s*** to say about me, that’s it,” Emtee said.
Nyovest reciprocated Emtee’s energy and extended the olive branch, praising the former Ambitiouz Entertainment star as “a very talented individual.”
“Hopefully we can sort it out and move forward. I love you big dawg. See you soon,” he tweeted.
Cass and Emtee beef: Where did it all start?
Tracing the roots of the ‘civil war’ between Nyovest and Emtee is not easy since there isn’t an exact moment in history one can point to. However, murmurs in the industry often harken to a series of interviews or past tweets, where both artists made mention of a studio session that never happened.
From what we understand, somewhere in the past, Nyovest and Emtee had scheduled a session to work on a much-anticipated collaboration. For reasons that remain shoddy, Emtee never showed up.
In fact, according to Nyovest, who spoke about the situation in an interview with Pearl Thusi on BET‘s Behind The Story, Emtee totally ghosted him.
“With Emtee we were supposed to go to studio. He switched off his phone. I was so excited to be in the studio with him but he mized (ignored) me. Not only him, there’s a lot of people who mize me.” Cassper said.
It’s unclear if another exchange ever took place between the two rappers, but in an interview with MacG’s podcast, Emtee admitted that his decision to ‘ghost’ Nyovest was tied to paranoia.
“I don’t wanna rock up there and have him feeling like, eh, so I wanted to pull up respectfully by myself. But then again, knowing the dude I don’t want no weird headlines to come out tomorrow. You find out that maybe while we were in studio he acted like we were cool and we’re recording, kante he is taking a video of my crack,” Emtee said.
The miscommunication was never addressed and, for a moment, one of the much-anticipated collaborations in SA Hip-Hop was off the table.
It seems, however, the newly established communication between both artists could turn things around after all.
