Afro House duo Black Motion is the subject of outrage on social media as rumours of their split were fuelled by a tweet posted by fellow artist Prince Kaybee.
Prince Kaybee drives Black Motion split rumours with this tweet
Kaybee, who’s on a work trip in Washington DC, US, sent social media into an uproar when he claimed that the Afro House duo made up of Thabo ‘Smol’ Mabogwane and Bongani ‘Murdahbongz’ Mohosana “is no more”.
“”[I’m] still in disbelief that Black Motion is no more, the most decorated and astounding duo of our time,” he tweeted.
Black Motion’s stance on split rumours revisited
It’s unclear where Kaybee sourced information on Black Motion’s alleged split, but, as it stands, it contradicts a statement released by the group earlier this year when the speculation around the state of their relationship first arose.
In a joint statement, the duo categorically denied rumours of their split as “damaging and untrue.”
“Spirit Motion would like to state on record that Black Motion members Thabo Mabongwane aka Smol and Bongani Mohosana aka Murdahbongz have not parted ways. Black Motion still exists and has plans for more years to come,” the duo clarified.
At the time, Black Motion made it abundantly clear that the only change that would not affect the nature of their business was Murdahbongz rebrand to Mörda.
“This is because he is preparing to launch his solo career as a DJ, but still remains part and parcel of Black Motion,” the group added.
Speculation of the Afro House duo’s split may have gained momentum when the reports were made by controversial celebrity microblogger and murder-accused Musa Khawula, but the same worries were felt when the group’s named their 2021 albumThe Healers: The Last Chapter.
Back then, Black Motion were forced to issue a statement dousing rumours about an impending breakup, making it clear that the title of the album was merely an interpretation of “everything we’ve been through so far.”
“In a nutshell, it’s a book… How we interpreted our stories—from the ‘hood to wherever we are in the world,” the duo told Apple Music.
Here’s how social media reacted to Kaybee’s tweet
All eyes will remain on the movements of the duo now that Kaybee has entered the chat to further exacerbate rumours that Black Motion have, for over a year, been trying to deassociate from.
Spirit Motion hinted, earlier this year, that a follow-up album to group’s 41-track offering was on the cards but, at this time, no indication has surfaced of new music.
