In a significant development, the Limpopo police have made a crucial arrest in connection with the brutal murders of Anneke Claassen and her friend, Hennie Claassen.
Suspect arrested in Anneke, Hennie Claassen murders
The victims, aged 73 and 77 respectively, were subjected to torture before their homes were set ablaze, resulting in their tragic deaths two weeks ago.
Hennie and Anneke resided in separate residences on a farm in Ohrigstad, Limpopo, with a considerable distance between them. The farm, Klipfonteinhoek, is well-known for its Echo Caves, a popular tourist attraction consisting of underground caverns.
Anneke’s lifeless body was discovered in the main farmhouse, while witnesses reported seeing individuals wearing balaclavas fleeing the scene.
Following the horrifying incident, dedicated provincial police tracking teams collaborated with the Bosveld Misdaad Ondersoeke, a non-profit organisation specialising in combating violent crimes and protecting endangered species, to tirelessly pursue the perpetrators.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, a police spokesperson, disclosed that the arrest of a 30-year-old man took place in the early hours of Wednesday.
Acting on valuable information, the authorities located the suspect’s hideout in Tembisa, Gauteng, and took him into custody at approximately 01:00. Significantly, the suspect had previously worked at the hotel and was positively linked to the incident.
The arrested individual is expected to appear before the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court in the near future, where he will face charges of murder, arson, and house robbery.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the provincial police commissioner, commended the swift detective work and collaborative efforts of the team involved in apprehending the suspect.
