Rapper Afroman has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the 2024 United States (US) Presidential elections, according to documents filed with the Federal Elections Commission.
Afroman looks to ‘weed’ out injustices with gutsy 2024 US presidential elections campaign
The musician, whose real name is Joseph Foreman, is running as an Independent and his campaign is called “Joseph Afroman Foreman for President.”
As reported by TMZ, Afroman first announced his intention to run for president back in December 2022 during a concert in Missouri, where he shared his dreams of occupying the Oval Office.
The musician’s campaign will focus on the national legalisation of cannabis, a cause that he has long been associated with, but his stance on other issues is still unclear.
Despite his late entry into the race, Afroman is the first celebrity to make his bid for presidency official.
Other famous faces, such as Ye (formerly known as Kanye West), hinted their interest in running but have yet to file any paperwork.
Afroman’s campaign manager, Jason Savage, has already outlined the musician’s priorities if he were to be elected.
“Criminal Justice Reform and Federal Marijuana Legalisation remain two of the primary planks in his campaign platform,” he said in a statement to TMZ.

Savage also highlighted Afroman’s ongoing legal troubles with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department, which he claims demonstrate the need for reform.
“Afroman’s ongoing persecution by the overtly corrupt Adams County Sheriff’s Department perfectly highlights that this corruption of leadership has trickled down to law enforcement all across the country. We are asking for your support as Afroman takes on this great and worthy cause as our Cannabis Commander in Chief,” Savage said.
While it remains to be seen whether Afroman’s campaign will gain traction, his focus on cannabis legalisation may be well-timed, as many states have recently moved to decriminalise the drug.
However, it remains to be seen whether this will be enough to secure the rapper a spot on the ballot.
Regardless of his political future, Afroman’s entry into the race adds an interesting dynamic to the already crowded field of presidential hopefuls. It also highlights the trend of celebrities entering politics, a phenomenon that has become increasingly common in recent years.
As the 2024 election approaches, it will be interesting to see who else throws their hat into the ring and how Afroman’s campaign evolves in the coming months. For now, we can only wait and see how the musician’s bid for the presidency plays out.
