The South African film industry is still reeling in the shock of Elize Cawood passing away. The news was confirmed by her daughter Jenna Jo Dunster on Facebook, on Saturday.

According to Dunster, her mom passed away on Saturday morning, at approximately 09:19 after a long battle with lung cancer.
“She was diagnosed with lung cancer in September [2019] and fought gracefully until the end. She was in no pain when she passed and both me and my father were there with her,” the daughter wrote.

Cawood was 68 years old when she passed, leaving behind a stellar track record, on and off the screen. Born in Bloemfontein, Free State, in 1952, Cawood always had a love for drama.
After graduating from Central High School, she enrolled at the University of Free State for a BA degree majoring in drama.
Her career debut came in 1974, where she starred in Paul Ziller’s The Effect of Gamma Rays and Bertolt Brecht’s The Good Man of Setzuan.
