Coachella has added another gem to its 2024 roster – South African pop sensation Tyla.
Tyla added to Coachella 2024 lineup
Known for her captivating voice and dynamic stage presence, Tyla is poised to take the prestigious Coachella stage, a significant milestone in her rapidly ascending music career.
Tyla joins a diverse lineup of artists, including Coachella headliners Lana Del Rey, Tyler The Creator, and Doja Cat.
The festival, spanning six days, is a melting pot of musical talent with performances from a plethora of artists across different genres.
This is the latest item Tyla has ticked off her bucket list.
In 2023, the Joburger became the youngest South African to make the US Billboard Hot 100 with her hit single Water, a feat not seen from a solo South African musician since Hugh Masekela’s 1968 hit Grazing In The Grass, which peaked at the summit of the chart on 20 July that year.
Coachella has been a platform for several African artists to showcase their talent on a global stage.
Tyla’s inclusion in the 2024 lineup continues a new trend of South African artists making their mark at Coachella.
South African acts have also graced the Coachella stage in previous years. Uncle Waffles ingratiated the Coachella audience with her high-octane jockeying skills last year, DJ Black Coffee, who recently survived a harrowing plane crash, has performed at the festival, bringing the sounds of tribal-electric South African House to an international audience.
Die Antwoord, the eclectic rap-rave group, also made their presence felt with their unique style and energy.
Tyla’s upcoming performance at Coachella 2024 not only adds to this legacy but also highlights the growing global influence of South African music.
