Actress Khanyi Mbau is set to face off against media personality Zodwa Rebecca Libram, popularly known as Zodwa Wabantu, in an exhibition boxing bout taking place later this month.
When is Khanyi Mbau vs Zodwa Wabantu boxing bout?
As reported by Sowetan, the event is scheduled to take place at the Ridge Hotel in Mpumalanga on Sunday, 22 October 2023, as confirmed by promoter Arnold “Squire” Nododile of Infinity International Boxing.
This boxing event marks Infinity International Boxing’s inaugural boxing tournament.
Nododile highlighted the significance of the event by noting:
“This will be the first-ever female celebrity exhibition boxing match-up in the African Continent since such fights have become part and parcels of the evolution of boxing around the globe.”
The milestone follows the trend of exhibition boxing bouts in South Africa, first popularised by rapper Cassper Nyovest.
The upcoming bout between Mbau and Wabantu is expected to draw significant attention given their known complex relationship, stemming from their shared past connection to Mandla Mthembu.
The promoter anticipates a large turnout due to the massive following both celebrities enjoy.
In addition to the celebrity bout, professional boxing will also be featured with two titles at stake.
The current SA junior featherweight champion, Matshidiso Mokatsane, will face Monalisa Takane in a rematch following their draw last year.
Mokatsane retained her national belt as the reigning champion. The event will also feature three female amateur bouts between fighters from Mpumalanga and Limpopo as curtain raisers, in partnership with Sanabo.
How to watch the boxing bout live in South Africa
Nododile’s Mailbox Media is in the advanced stages of finalising a broadcast partnership with BET Africa to air the event, broadening the reach of this unique boxing matchup on the African Continent.
At this time, no live-streaming options were announced.
