Jub Jub’s legal proceedings experienced another delay in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday.
Jub Jub multi-rape case postponed: Here’s everything you must know
The unfolding legal narrative of Molemo Maarohanye encountered yet another postponement during a recent session at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
The defence team cited a lack of critical documents from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) as the reason for the delay, asserting the necessity for detailed information on the allegations’ specifics.
With the NPA requiring time to consult with complainants, the trajectory of the case remains in flux.
The defence is weighing options, which include a potential motion to dismiss the charges or proceeding to trial. The court, determined to prevent further delays, set a return date despite the defence’s representations.
The culpable murder ex-convict stands accused on multiple charges encompassing rape, indecent assault, kidnapping, and assault, to name a few.
In previous hearings, there was a push for postponement by Maarohanye’s legal counsel, who argued for more time to review case details, maintaining the stance that the allegations were unfounded.
Contrarily, NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane conveyed the State’s readiness for trial, underscoring the belief in the strength of the prosecution’s case.
Jub Jub will be back in court on 11 December 2023.
Strict conditions accompany his bail: Maarohanye is prohibited from contacting the complainants and is confined to Johannesburg, with the obligation to report to a local police station twice a week.
