AKA and Costa Titch finally released their much-anticipated collaboration project You’re Welcome on Friday, and the streets have been in a frenzy ever since.
You’re Welcome is out: Here’s our review
After weeks of building up buzz for the album, the dynamic duo came forth with an eight-track ensemble consisting of a blend of traditional bubblegum Hip-Hop, AKA’s signature chopped and screwed rap hits and Amapiano.
It’s no wonder You’re Welcome. from a production standpoint, borrows massively from the constructs of the latter genre.
SA’s official weekly Top 100 streaming chart is dominated by Amapiano and DJ Shimza will tell you, there aren’t many promoters bookable rap acts in South Africa anymore.
Fans of AKA and Titch will feel robbed by the short duration of the album, though. It’s only 25 minutes of nothing but radio chart-toppers.
For purists who believe in the traditional format of Side A and B cuts properly blended in with the ‘quick’ burners — think Nas and Hit-Boy’s King’s Disease II — this album is daylight robbery.
Regardless, AKA and Titch outdid themselves on this album and surely, the paving has been cemented for a profitable national tour this coming festive season.
